Pneumatic Toys
In Design and Technology we have been learning about pneumatics and how air can be used to operate mechanisms. We made our own pneumatic toys by placing balloons inside a box and then inflating these so that the box flips open. We all had great fun turning our designs into reality.
Roman Day
We had the most wonderful day dressing up as Romans and enjoying some Roman themed activities. We baked Libum a Roman cheese cake drizzled with honey, made our own infused wine (non alcoholic of course), made mosaic coasters, painted shields, practised our army formations and marching and explored artefacts found at Vindolanda. We finished it off with a wonderful open classroom event where we showed off our learning to our parents and enjoyed our Roman cooking together.
We are Times Table Rock Stars
We had a fantastic day dressing up as rock stars and enjoying a number of times table themed activities. We held a battle of the bands with Green family taking the crown with just shy of 1000 correct answers. We played times table themed games and made our own times table rockets to help us learn those tricky facts.
Boudicca
As part of our history learning on Romans we learnt about the opposition the Roman army faced from Boudicca. We learnt about her life and how she led the Iceni tribe into battle destroying 3 Roman towns in the process. We pretended we were Boudicca and wrote our own battle cries to tell the tribe why this fight was so important. We had great fun painting our faces and performing these for one another.
Exploring Fossils
We have continued our learning about rocks by becoming paleontologists and exploring fossils.
Still Life
In art this term we have been exploring Still Life and in particular have looked at the work of Cezanne. We have learnt various techniques and used these to create our own Still Life images.
Investigating Rocks
In science we have been learning about rocks and soils. We performed three tests to find out about the properties of different rocks including using vinegar to explore the results of acid rain and water to see how permeable a rock is.
Computing
Over the last few weeks we have been busy learning all about QR (Quick Response) codes as well as creating our own! The children have had opportunities to scan QR codes around the class using tablets. During this activity they found out that QR codes can take us to different things, such as: websites, instructions and even questions and games! As a class we talked about where we might find QR codes, what information they give us and who might use them.
Bluebell Class really enjoyed the opportunities to create and scan their own QR codes they created.
Christmas Applique
We have been busy using our new sewing skills to make our Christmas cards.
Have you heard? There's a Mouse in Santa's House!
We had great fun preparing for and performing our Christmas Play!
