Blackbird Class

    WELCOME TO BLACKBIRD CLASS

Blackbird Class is our Year 1 and 2 class.

The class teacher is Mrs Mee. On Monday afternoons Mrs Vranch, who is a HLTA, will teach the class either a series of forest school lessons or PE. Many other TAs also support the children in Blackbird Class during the week: Mrs Clayson, Miss Wenlock, Mrs Kendrick, Mrs Vranch, Miss Thompson and Mrs Singer.

Please find below an information letter to provide you with everything you need to know about Blackbird Class for you to enable your child to settle well into the next term. Also to enable you to be aware and become involved with your child's learning there is a curriculum balloon which informs you of the learning your child will be completing over the next two terms as well as some home learning where you can help support your child at home.

Our Autumn topic is "Nature, Nature Everywhere!"

Helpful knowledge about animals

Our Spring topic is "Earth and beyond...up, up and away!"

Helpful knowledge about habitats

Flora and Fauna

We explored the work of artists who were inspired by flora and fauna (Eric Carle, Erin Anfinson, Henri Rousseau etc). We made pictures of wild flower meadows using watercolours with collage. After mounting them we then gave them to our parents as a Christmas present (which we wrapped in our own wrapping paper again with out clay flower pots).

Mini beast collages

Christmas art activities

We used a glue gun to make picture frames which we had decorated with repeated patterns.

We made our own wrapping paper to wrap up the gifts we made.It also had repeated patterns.

Our Christmas Play "Jesus' Christmas Party" based on a book by Nicholas Allan. It had a very bad tempered innkeeper!

Andy Goldsworthy inspired art in Nature Explorers. We looked at patterns in nature and the work of Andy Goldsworthy and made own own creations.

Maths

We have been comparing numbers using the signs greater than, less than and equal to.

Year 1 have been making numbers to twenty in different ways using different equipment.

Computing

We have had a computing challenge to give instructions to a Beebot for it to move to a partner. Next we are going to learn to turn right or left and go around a floor map. Then we had to debug an algorithm.
