Welcome to Snowdrop Class

Snowdrop Class is made up of EYFS children. Mr Shipway is the class teacher. Mrs B (Monday - Thursday AM) and Mrs Elliott (Friday AM) are the classroom assistants, the class is also supported by Miss Gunter and Miss Carter.

Learning

EYFS Children will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework curriculum. The EYFS framework outlines seven areas of learning and development and educational programmes. There are three prime areas of learning, which are particularly important for your child’s development and future learning. There are four specific areas of learning, through which the prime areas are strengthened and applied. There are 17 ELGs your child is expected to achieve by the end of the EYFS.

PIRATES AND THE SEA

Our latest topic in Snowdrop Class is entitled 'Pirates and the Sea', we will be looking at different Pirates, labelling parts of a pirate ship as well as looking at what lives where in relation to the seaside. Keep your eyes peeled for our Pirate Ship to arrive in Snowdrop Class too!

Measure Measure Measure

We have enjoyed looking at measurement again in Snowdrop Class. After hearing the story 'Superworm' we then made our own 'worms' and talked about the length of them comparing the size of each of them and using the key words long and short, we even worked out who could throw a bean bag the longest distance...the winner was Mrs B!. We have also looked at height and time. When looking at time we made toast and participated in games seeing how many bean bags we could get in a hoop in a given time. The children enjoyed building towers with the crates outside and used the correct words to compare the height of them.

Snowdrop Class learnt that heavy objects will go down on a balance scales. I was really impressed with their learning outside when they made their own balance scales and investigated to see which items (and even people) were heavy and light.

We made predictions and even estimated how blocks it would take to balance our scales. The class watched a story called 'Who Sank the Boat' and they then continued this learning outside when they found items that floated or sunk and even tried to sink their own boats!
