Snowdrop Class
Welcome to Snowdrop Class!
Snowdrop Class are taught by Miss Brown in the mornings and Mr Shipway in the afternoons.
We are now entering the Spring Term! This term we continue with our Drawing Club journey, where we will explore more traditional tales, fiction books and animations. We will also be introducing colourful semantics to support us in writing simple phrases. In mathematics, we continue to understand numbers and finding one more and one less of a given amount. We will also explore odd and even numbers and doubling.
In the afternoons, we continue with our learning in the foundation subjects. In history, the children will be investigating toys in the past compared to toys in the present day. In science, the class will be exploring living things and their habitats.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework used in nurseries, preschools, and reception classes in England for children from birth to age 5. It sets the standards for learning, development, and care to ensure children are given the best start in life. The EYFS is built around seven areas of learning and development. These are divided into three prime areas and four specific areas:
The Prime Areas (the building blocks for learning)
These develop first and are the most essential for children’s healthy development and future learning.
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
The Specific Areas (which build on the prime areas)
As children grow, these areas help them extend their learning.

Fossil Expert Visit
On Wednesday 11th March, Snowdrop Class were visited by fossil expert, Simon Carpenter. Simon shared with us his knowledge and passion of fossil hunting! The children had the opportunity to handle a fossilised dinosaur skull, a dinosaur bone and the class favourite - fossilised dinosaur poo! The class showed excellent listening and asked wonderful questions!
FANTASTIC PRINTERS
In our final printing lesson of the sequence, Snowdrop Class used foam tiles to create their own designs before printing them using black ink. We may have got a little messy, but the children loved experimenting with the materials and were proud of the creative prints they produced!

Puppet Making!
In History, the children have been learning and investigating toys in the past. As a way of ending the unit, each child had a go at creating and making their own puppet. Throughout this term, they have enjoyed learning about puppets and have explored playing with them in their lesson times. Each puppet was hand sewn by the children. They are incredibly proud of their designs. Well done, Snowdrops!
Exploring Animals and Woodland Habitats
This term in Science, the children have been exploring animals and plants through hands‑on investigations, including looking closely at a woodland habitat. They have learned to name familiar animals, identify their body parts, and understand how animals use their senses and what they need to survive. We have also explored the difference between living and non‑living things, and discovered the different places plants and animals live – including habitats around our own school grounds. The children have been asking questions, observing carefully, drawing and labelling what they see, and grouping different animals and plants with support.
