Green Screen Photographs
We have been having fun using the green wall in Oolite. We took photographs standing next to it. We then thought of some places we would like to go or things we would like to see.
Lambs Visit Basalt Class
We had some special visitors in Basalt Class today. They are orphan lambs staying with a Basalt family. The children had great fun getting to stroke the lambs. Some children mixed the milk powder into water and the lots of children were able to feed the lambs. They loved exploring the outside classroom.

Our Farm Shop
We have a new farm shop in our outside classroom as part of our new topic this term. We also have farm animals to play with and use lego to design and build a farm. We have used water colours to paint pictures of farm animals.
Eating Our Maths
We have been learning all about halves and quarters in maths. We made marmalade sandwiches and investigated how to cut them in half and then in quarters. At the end of our lesson we ate the sandwiches. Yum yum !
Reading Our Stories
Basalt Class have been writing their own adventure story for Paddington Bear. They made stories maps and used these to write the ideas, making sure they had a beginning, middle and end. They used their editing skills to ensure they had 5 star sentences. When they were finished some of the children read their stories to the rest of the class.
We have enjoyed our cricket coaching with Sean. He has taught us lots of new bat and ball skills . We had great fun and loved hitting the wickets.
Basalt Forest School
We had a lovely time at forest school today. We played in the mud, built bug houses, cooked in the mud kitchen, made nature bracelets, melted marshmallows and used the tools and wood. What a busy afternoon in the sunshine.

World Book Day
Book day is a favourite day in the school calendar. The children love dressing up as book characters. They had a busy day doing a word search, a book scavenger hunt, they drew book characters from their books and had a book quiz in the afternoon. There was a special assembly where there was a parade so we could see all the amazing costumes.
Year 2 Maths
This week year 2's have been learning about arrays as part of our new topic, multiplication and division.
We have been learning about Shrove Tuesday being the last day before lent and why we have pancakes. Lent is the christian period leading up to Easter, when people gave up something. We had great fun making pancakes and had to be very patient while they cooked. They were very yummy .
Wake and Shake
We have been learning a new dance routine for our whole school wake and shake for next term. Here is a video for the children to practise at home if they would like. They have really enjoyed learning the new routine. Here is a link to the video online.

Children's Mental Health Week 7 - 11th February
As part of well-being week we have been exploring mindfulness activities and relaxing our minds and bodies.
First we designed our Tudor houses after observing the architectural style. With lots of boxes we were able to follow the plans to construct them and paint them white. The following week we looked at designs for the patterns of the wooden frames and the styles of windows. They are now on display in the hall for all to see.
Today we used some of the boxes to work together to make some London double decker buses.

This afternoon we made a healthy cereal bar to eat at snack time. We designed a fruit kebab using some favourite fruits . We also created our own imaginary fruit .
